Sita stared at the humble vanara before her, her heart caught between hope and disbelief. "How can I be certain you speak the truth?" she asked softly.
Hanuman understood her caution completely, knowing that many tricks and illusions might be used against her in this unfamiliar, dangerous place.
Reaching carefully into his keeping, Hanuman withdrew Rama's personal ring, holding it out gently for Sita to see.
The moment Sita's eyes fell upon the ring, she recognized it instantly, her breath catching with overwhelming emotion.
"This is truly Rama's ring," she whispered, tears of joy and relief streaming freely down her face as she took it carefully into her hands.
"He gave this to me himself," Hanuman explained gently, "as a promise that I had truly been sent to find you and bring you hope."
Sita clutched the ring tightly, overwhelmed with gratitude and relief after so many long, sorrowful days of captivity.
"Tell me," she said eagerly, "how is my beloved Rama? Is he well? Does he still think of me?"
Hanuman smiled warmly, sharing stories of Rama's unwavering devotion, his tireless search, and the deep sorrow he carried every day without her.
"He thinks of you constantly," Hanuman reassured her. "His love for you has never once wavered, even for a single moment."
Sita listened intently, comforted deeply by every word, her heart filled with renewed hope after months of uncertainty and fear.
"Come with me now," Hanuman offered gently. "I can carry you swiftly across the ocean, back to Rama's loving arms this very day."
Sita considered his kind offer carefully, deeply moved by his courage and loyalty, yet she shook her head gently in response.
"I am truly grateful for your offer," she said softly, "but it would not be right for me to leave this way, carried by another."
"Rama himself must come to free me," she explained. "It is his honor, and mine, that call for him to be the one who rescues me from this place."
Hanuman nodded respectfully, understanding and admiring the quiet strength and dignity behind her decision.
"Then I shall return to Rama at once," Hanuman promised, "and tell him exactly where you are, so that he may come for you himself."
Before he departed, Sita carefully removed a beautiful hair ornament, a chudamani, and offered it gently to Hanuman.
"Give this to Rama," she said, "so that he will know beyond any doubt that you have truly seen and spoken with me."
Hanuman accepted the precious token with deep reverence, promising to deliver it safely into Rama's hands.
"Tell him," Sita added, her voice trembling with emotion, "that I remain steadfast in my devotion, and that I await him with unwavering hope."
Hanuman bowed low before her, moved deeply by her courage, patience, and unwavering love for Rama despite her difficult circumstances.
"I will deliver your message exactly as you have spoken it," Hanuman promised solemnly. "And I will return with Rama himself, I swear it."
Sita smiled through her tears, comforted greatly by Hanuman's kindness, loyalty, and the renewed hope his visit had brought her.
Before departing, Hanuman considered carefully how he might further help Sita, wondering if there was any other way to ease her difficult circumstances.
He realized that before leaving Lanka entirely, it might serve Rama's cause well to understand more about Ravana's strength and the defenses of his kingdom.
Sita, sensing his thoughtful hesitation, gently reminded him to be careful, for Ravana's kingdom was vast, powerful, and heavily guarded.
"Please be careful, Hanuman," she said softly. "I could not bear it if harm came to you after all the hope you have given me today."
Hanuman reassured her gently, promising to be cautious, though a quiet resolve had already begun forming within him regarding his next course of action.
With Sita's blessing and her precious token safely in hand, Hanuman prepared to explore a little further, before beginning his journey back across the ocean.
